Here is one ‘Tricks of the Mind’ there are quite a few of them….
Let’s remember that our egos/minds are just one part of us, but not necessarily the wisest one! We are also the observer/consciousness/our higher self, from where we access wisdom, and flow. It is from this place that we seek out Win/Win solutions, seek peace, and experience unconditional love, joy, direct knowing, gratitude, surrendering, authenticity, freedom and profound interconnectedness.
To get to and be able to access the ‘higher self’ we have to get the ego under control, still it and be aware when it is taking over through fear or just running amok!
Here is one common ‘Trick of the Mind’:
Gets caught up in the moment and believes the interpretation to be the truth. From there it makes conclusions about ‘me’ and the world.
Scenario; I am going to a special event all dressed up, a car goes by splashing me with dirty water from the road. My ego might conclude:
- ‘this always happens to me’ or
- ‘I am never supposed to look nice’ or
- ‘motorists are all so inconsiderate’ or
- if the driver was a man – ‘men are all so inconsiderate’ etc or
- if the driver was a young woman – ‘now even women are as inconsiderate as men’ or
- ‘the youth of today’ ….. or
- ‘no one cares anymore’ – leading on to ‘what is the world coming to?’
- if the car was a Volvo - ‘Volvo drivers are all inconsiderate and bad drivers’ etc
- We call this ‘Mind Jumping’.
We are working towards: I don’t allow my mind to think a thought without my permission!
